Mother's Day, May 9, 2004

Pinewoods Morris Men, Sunday, May 9, 2004

These pictures are from our Mother's Day tour. We started the day at the Minuteman Air Field in Stow, which is home to a lovely little restaurant known as Nancy's Air Field Cafe. The weather forecast Sunday morning threatened rain, and sure enough, we got it. Don, the air field manager, welcomed us warmly, but was unable to supply a weather upgrade.

Rather than just stand around doing nothing while clogging up traffic under the entranceway, we decided to do some jigs while clogging up traffic. Here we have Jamie doing Nutting Girl.

We actually did get one full-side dance in before we left - Oddington Highland Mary.

From the air field we set off in search of some lunch, in the hope that the rain might ease if we just waited a bit. The desire to consume beer had absolutely nothing to do with our decision.

Our initial destination, the Horseshoe, in Hudson, was unfortunately closed for renovations. We then set course for Kennedy's Pub in Marlborough. This turned out to be an excellent choice, offering good food, pleasant service and cold beer on tap. After about an hour of loading ballast we walked outside and found that the rain had, in fact, stopped. Steve pointed out that clearly drinking, not Morris dancing, has the power to change the weather.

SO - we piled back into our cars and motored off to what became our final tour stop of the day, Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston.

Tower Hill turned out to be a wonderful place to dance. The grounds are spectacular, there are nice views (including a glimpse of Mt. Wachusett to the northwest), and the folks were very friendly. We danced a few dances on the porch outside the Great Hall and then moved to the Orangerie, which we danced in and around. Before leaving, the kind folks who run the place treated us to a spead of cheese, fruit and crackers. And they even let us bag! There was a strong consensus that we need to go back to Tower Hill, perhaps for Columbus Day weekend.
