We live in Cambridge, between Porter and Davis Squares. If the
directions seem to be leading you in circles, bear in mind that
our neighborhood is chock full of one-way streets.
From Harvard Square
- Take Massachusetts Avenue (also known as Route 2a)
northbound towards Arlington. In
about 10 blocks you will pass the Porter Square "T" stop and the
Porter Square Shopping Center on your right.
- Continue on Massachusetts Avenue to the next traffic light, which
is at the intersection with Beech Street.
- Turn right onto Beech Street. Go 2 short blocks to the
intersection with Elm Street. There is a big "Welcome to
Somerville" sign in the center of the intersection.
- Turn left onto Elm Street. The next street on the left (you
will pass several street on the right) is Miller Avenue, across
the street from the restaurant Green Tomato II.
- Turn left onto Miller Avenue. Miller is only one block long.
Our house is the last house on the right, at the corner of Miller and
Orchard.
From the west via Route 2
- Proceed east on Route 2. The road narrows to 2 lanes, and you will
pass the "Lanes and Games" bowling alley on your right. Get into the
left hand lane and stay left as you approach the intersection at the
end of Route 2.
- Take the exit to the left to get onto Route 16 East. Once you have
cleared the intersection get into the right lane.
- The first major intersection is with Massachusetts Avenue, also
known as Route 2A. Turn right (south) onto Massachusetts Avenue.
- Continue southbound on Massachusetts Avenue for about a half
mile. You will reach an intersection with Rindge Avenue, which
enters on the right at a traffic light. The "Pemberton
Market" is on the left at jst before the intersection. You want to be
in the left lane as you go through the intersection.
- The next break in the Massachusetts Avenue divider is
at Russell Street, shortly before the intersection with
Walden Street on the right. If you get to the "KFC" at Walden
you went too far.
- Turn left onto Russell. Note that this is a difficult
intersection; you may have to wait quite a while before you can
make the left turn.
- Go two blocks on Russell to the next traffic light, which is at
the intersection with Elm Street.
- Turn right onto Elm. You will pass one small street on the right.
The next street, across from the restaurant Green Tomato II, is Miller
Avenue.
- Turn right onto Miller Avenue. Miller is only one block long.
Our house is the last house on the right, at the corner of Miller and
Orchard.
Parking
We live in an area with resident parking only, except on Sundays and
holidays. If you visit us any other day of the week, it's prudent to
call ahead and have us put a car on the street so you can park in our
driveway (off Miller Avenue). If the driveway isn't available, you can
park in any legal resident space on Miller, Orchard or other nearby
Cambridge street and come get the visitor permit. For parties we can
get the parking restriction temporarily lifted; if we have done so,
we'll be sure to tell you.
